Keep up with ArkeoTopia in Paris or remotely

Want to know what ArkeoTopia is doing? Or connect with members in the association? Every 4th Saturday of the month, the ArkeoTopia team meets for a Check Point in Paris or from home. Keep reading to learn what is involved and how it works.

Check Points: a hybrid day of workshops, popularization, and sharing

Every month the ArkeoTopia team and its members meet for the day in the association common area on 7 Rue Jean Nicot made available by the town hall of the 7th arrondissement of Paris. The day is divided into three main components: workshops and co-working on different ongoing projects, ArkaeoCocoon for conferences, and ArkaeoBox is for informal exchange and sharing of information. We welcome a wide variety of topics that are related to the 5 pillars of the association. In order to allow all our members and participants to meet up, we use a private Discord channel in the morning and a public channel for the afternoon session. This server guarantees a connection using videoconference and hybrid sessions.

Breakdown of a Check Point meeting

The morning part of the Check Point consists of a status report on different ongoing projects and activities by those of ArkeoTopia’s team (members, external volunteers, employees, partners).

From 10am-12:30pm, CEST time, the Check Point is split up into workshops based on the association’s needs and of those working on projects. This means following up on:

After lunch, which takes place in the common area in Paris for those who attend in-person, the schedule for the afternoon is focused on popularization efforts and sharing research. From 2pm-6pm, CEST Time, the ArkeoTopia team welcomes anyone and everyone who is interested and wants to get involved.

Specifically, we are focused on:

  • ArkaeoCocoon, a conference given by an outside archaeology and cultural heritage specialist or a member of the team. This aims to popularize research to a larger audience or inform others about the latest scientific advancements
  • CoPil, otherwise known as the steering committee, which meets three times per year to help develop the association by enabling its entire network to participate
  • ArkaeoBox, a time for informal conversation to share in our common interests of archaeology and cultural heritage
    • introduction to archaeological techniques
    • exchanging information, reviews, travel journals, etc.
    • time allotted for sharing pictures with #ArchaeoPhoto
    • time allotted for reading aloud with #IReadArchaeo

How is a Check Point run?

The contents of a Check Point are determined by the members, which include active members, supporters, or even external volunteers.

As for the schedule, a formal invitation is sent the 5th of every month which contains a rundown of the Check Point.
