Working with ArkeoTopia

We regularly work with members and organizations involved in archaeological research. In particular, we regularly collaborate with the Département d’Histoire naturelle de l’Homme préhistorique (Department of natural history of Prehistoric Man) (UMR 7194) of the Musée de l’Homme in Paris and the Équipe 4 of the Archéologie et Archéométrie laboratory (UMR 5138) in Lyon.

Our activities and research programs depend on our members and the relationships we have developed. This is why we are currently working on:

  • Adventure Mission – Underwater and terrestrial survey of the Aventure shipwreck in New Caledonia during the 19th century
  • The WikiTopia Archives Program – Digitization and analysis of letters from scholars of the 19th century, in order to expand our knowledge of the early work on Celtic and Gallo-Roman archaeology.
  • Ground survey program in the Yvelines department – micro-territorial study of the layout of Gallo-Roman agricultural areas (1st century BC)
  • Contribution to epistemology projects focused on archaeology like this contribution

If you wish to work with us on one of our research programs or to submit a publication, take a look at our various works below and contact us via our form.

Meetings around European Archaeology (MEA)

If you wish to organize a meeting focused on your area of expertise or on societal matters related to archaeology (scientific education, the fight against antiquities looting, organizing a citizen participation in research, etc.), join us to plan this event together.

As a member of the European Association of Archaeologists which has a seat at the Council of Europe, we attend the EAA Annual Meeting every year, which is an opportunity for us to share our ideas and work on a European or even an international scale.

Defending archaeological research

Defending scientific research in archeology means contributing to a better protection of our cultural heritage, to healthy and sustainable relations between the different parties involved in research (professionals, volunteers, citizens, politicians), and to an expansion of the knowledge and practices related to archaeological research. This is why ArkeoTopia has already intervened twice with Afnor on the subject of the French standard X50-553 on “Management of research activities” and the European standard CEN/TC 346 on “Conservation of cultural heritage”.

If you are interested in this area, join us to also participate in the defense of archaeological research without the bias of any laboratory or syndicate.

    ArkeoTopia supports research

As all scientific fields, archaeology needs financial and human investment that often exceeds the resources already at its disposal. By helping with simple or complex tasks, we can all contribute to the advancement of scientific research in archaeology. To the full extent of its capabilities, ArkeoTopia, an alternative approach to archaeology, thus contributes to the research effort as we believe that mighty oaks from little acorns grow.

Since 2021, our flagship project has been called WikiTory.

The purpose of WikiTory is to launch a participatory inventory program of cultural heritage, both in France and worldwide.

Since the creation of the association in 2007, ArkeoTopia has contributed to supporting research and its valorization by completing tasks such as:

    • Artefacts analysis
    • Publication of scientific articles online
    • Proofreading articles
    • Image editing or scanning
    • Bringing professionals together
    • Finding partners or funding for research projects
    • Presentation of projects at scientific or cultural events in which ArkeoTopia participates
    • Artefacts Program, an example of the support granted to archaeological research
    • Communication assistance
    • Knowledge base enhancement
    • Micro-financing
    • Logistical support, such as the provision of staff or equipment
    • Advice on organizing research tasks

    ArkeoTopia and archaeological research

The purpose of ArkeoTopia, an alternative approach to archaeology, is to get a new perspective on the current state of archaeology in order to contribute to preparing its future. This is why we attach fundamental importance to the training and guidance of young researchers, as well as support them during their first steps as archaeologists, without neglecting fundamental research as a whole.
